I am a teacher with 29 years experience in teaching Elementary and EC. I have taught in both SC and NC. I have also tutored many students in the past as well as teaching summer school. I come from a long line of teachers in my family. My three sisters are also in education. I always wanted to be a teacher . That has always been my passion....
ADD/ADHD
I have been around many ADD/ADHD students during my 29 years of teaching. It seems to go in hand with many students who have learning difficulties. As time as gone on, it seems like more and more students are being diagnosed with this problem. Many students have had parents especially mothers who have used drugs in the past and contributed to their child having hyperactivity and /or attention problems. There are many effective medicines or patches that can be used to help the child. As with any medicines there can be side effects. There are also ways of teaching an ADD/ADHD chid to deal with this problem without medicines. Some children can not handle the medicines for various reasons or some parents do not wish to have their children on medication. I have taught many children who are Learning Disabled, Autistic, Mentally Handicapped, etc. who have these problems. It should be dealt with especially when they are of school age if it is interfering with their concentration and performance in academics.
